Program Description

Event Details

Welcome to the Mystic & Noank Library's Local Authors Writing Workshop Series for the summer of 2023. This is the third year we've run the series as part of our adult summer reading program, connecting readers and aspiring writers with authors who live in or near our community. You may attend each of these workshops either in person or virtually. You must register for each workshop separately.

Writing Short Fiction with Lara Ehrlich
Short can be deep. Quick can cut to the quick. Short stories can shatter your heart. In this workshop, we’ll break down examples of short prose that packs a punch, investigate what makes them powerful, and apply those elements to our own craft. We’ll do generative writing exercises with the aim of leaving the workshop with a completed flash piece and share our prose (not required).

Author Bio
Lara Ehrlich is the author of Animal Wife, a collection of stories about women’s transformations from girls into wives, mothers, and monsters. Animal Wife won Red Hen Press’s Fiction Award judged by Ann Hood and was published by the press in 2020. Lara is also the host of Writer Mother Monster, a conversation series devoted to dismantling the myth of “having it all” and offering writer-moms solidarity, support, and advice. She is the founder and director of Thought Fox Writers Den, which builds community and supports writers of all levels with classes, workshops, coaching, and more, both online and at the Velvet Mill in Stonington, CT.   www.laraehrlich.com | www.writermothermonster.com | www.thoughtfox.org
