Artist Bio

The BluesGrass Guitar Duo is a recent offshoot of a well-established acoustic duo with the same name but slightly different instrumentation. We both love to sing, and we’ve had years of experience playing American roots music with numerous bands. As our name implies, our material is an “Americana” mix of blues and bluegrass, as well as folk music and classic pop oldies. We pride ourselves on our close harmony vocals and instrumental accompaniment. One feature of our live shows that many listeners have said they appreciate is our inclusion of historical information as background for the songs. Overall, our listeners can enjoy a well rounded and entertaining acoustic music experience.

Over the years, as we’ve worked on our music for the BluesGrass duo format (with bass and guitar), we’ve also spent many enjoyable hours playing guitars and singing together. Finally we decided it was time to branch out and bring that music to audiences. Our recent CD “Some Old, Some New” presents a selection of our favorite songs from the two-guitar format. The album is available to stream here

Mark White (guitar, harmonica, vocals) – Mark plays both fingerstyle and flat-picked guitar, in addition to harmonica, and sings lead as well as tenor harmonies. Over the years he has played in several bands in Connecticut, collaborating with some excellent musicians in the process. He has a deepappreciation for the many facets of American roots music and continues to search for songs that resonate with him and his listeners. Mark lives in Groton Long Point, Connecticut.

Jon Swift (guitar, vocals) – Jon was a founding member of the popular Connecticut-based acoustic
bluegrass band Traver Hollow, playing bass and singing with that group in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. The
band’s music was enjoyed by the many audiences who listened to Traver Hollow’s recorded albums and
live shows in Europe and Canada, as well as much of the U.S. In addition to playing bass, Jon has
played guitar for years, performing in many acoustic venues in Connecticut. Currently he also plays
guitar with the acoustic duo Deep Ellum. Jon sings lead and baritone harmonies and lives in Durham,
Connecticut.
